Undoubtedly many have heard by now that tomorrow around 6:00pm judgment day has been predicted by Harold Camping to occur. For a really good, and short, blog post regarding Camping’s prediction Click Here.
What is unfortunate about Camping’s prediction is that secular media has now picked it up and begun to take free shots at Christianity, missing the main point. Heard this morning on Colin Cowherd’s radio show were the following…
“Send emails to the 1-800-Flowers Judgment Day Inbox”
“Our slogan today is, email now because there will be no tomorrow.”
…and many more.
What’s clear from listening to Cowherd is that he not only doesn’t believe judgment day is coming tomorrow but equally doesn’t believe there will ever be a day of judgment. Camping’s ill-advised prediction regarding judgment day has, in the eyes of Cowherd, made Christians out to be fools.
Regarding foolishness I have no issues being considered a fool by the world and equally no issue with the world considering Christians to be fools. However, I want to be heralded as the right kind of fool.
I want to be known as the fool that boldly believes that the Cross is the power of God, and that in God’s infinite wisdom He has chosen to use what is foolish in the eyes of the world to save (1 Cor. 1:18-31). See, there’s an enormous difference in boldly making predictions regarding the rapture and judgment day, which the Bible tells us not to do, and boldly proclaiming that Jesus Christ died for sins of mankind.
Scripture clearly tells us that the Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night (2 Peter. 3:10; 1 Thess. 5:2-4). Jesus, himself, says that no one knows the day or the hour, but we are rather to “be on guard, and keep awake” (Mark 13:32-33). Like a thief in the night the Day of the Lord will come unannounced.
Believers are to be absolutely clear regarding the imminent return of Jesus, but appropriately silent regarding predictions of the world’s end. We are to be equally clear regarding the Gospel, sin, salvation and the hope that we have in Jesus Christ. If the world is going to consider us to be fools, let’s be “fools” for the Gospel and for salvation.
Hey Tim I fully agree w u bro!
